The people of Haiti...

HELP THEM!!!
click to go to a site with ways to help

On Tuesday when I was on Facebook, a friend mentioned in their status that they were watching the children from the orphanage arrive in Pittsburgh. I was reading over the comments deciding if I should throw my 2 cents in or not. I decided not to because I wasn't sure I liked where things were going. There was a short discussion on how we (the United States) should not help those people. The reason - what has Haiti done for us? And we have our own problems on our own soil to worry about.

I was shocked, to say the least. I know that the United States has it's own share of problems, and yes, they do need to be dealt with. But why should that stop us from helping others? We have more resources than they do so we should put them to good use. I also feel that by helping others, they in return will help us if, God forbid, anything tragic like that happens to us.

What are your thoughts?

While on the subject of helping, that leads to the next thought that's been jumping around in my head. Blogging.

When I first started blogging, it was intended to be a means for family and friends who don't live close by to stay updated on our family. In particular, my kids. I started reading other blogs, following other blogs and gaining my own group of followers. I have since realized that there is so much more to blogging than I first thought.

Yes, this is still a way for me to keep family and friends updated. But my blog is also a place for me to connect to others and hopefully make new friends. Even though I may not have met the face behind the blog, I consider the writers of some of the blogs I read to be friends. If a funny story is posted, I laugh, too. If they are having a rough time, my heart hurts for them. And if someone pisses that blogger off, I get pissed, too.

My blog is also a place for me to escape and sort through my thoughts. Often times things happen in our lives that we just don't understand and for me, putting my words to "paper" helps. I can reread what I typed and hopefully it helps. I have also realized that there are others out there who have been through similar experiences and it really does help to know you're not alone.

I have also seen bloggers come together to help a specific cause. I think that is incredible. Most of these people haven't met in real life, but they still can come together for a good cause.

If you feel the need to help others, than I think it's wonderful. And to all the other bloggers out there

Thank you

Until next time...

Comments like that make me angry- that we shouldn't help. I do get the point that there are many people hurting in our own country and they should be helped, too, but to just ignore a tragedy, I don't get it.

I love my blog friends, too!

I think it is great that we are helping and as a volunteer firefighter/emt I really wish I was over there helping right now.

My two cents is that if society used the excuse that we have our own problems in our families and therefore, we shouldn't help anyone else then the world would be a much sadder place.. I think the same is true for the US..

we need the good Karma

I agree with you. Most bloggers that keep blogging, have their blog evolve into other purposes than originally set out on. And I love that!

That's a tough one. I agree, the people need help, but I also agree that people turn a blind eye to what's going on right underneath their noses. I know first hand, my son has autism. If it was childhood cancer, they'd be lining up with pot roasts and having bake sales. It's frustrating, but that's the way our world is...

Stopping by from SITS!

I agree with you and think it's sad how riled up people get about issues on the internet that they would otherwise probably keep quiet about. Thanks for sharing.
