The End is Near

Schools out for the summer
The school year is winding down. Tomorrow is GG's last day of second grade. She's a little sad to see it end. She keeps telling me that she will miss her teacher. I'm not quite sure why. I surely don't like her and I know the majority of the other parents don't either. Some parents have been broken and fly off the handle at the mention of this teacher's name. You can read more about my thoughts on the teacher here.

I guess in GG's eyes, this teacher is doing something right.

Putting those sad feelings aside, I know for a fact GG is looking forward to the summer. I have lots of things planned and hopefully we can get it all in before school starts back up in August. On the 25th to be exact. But who's counting?!

One thing I plan on doing is hitting up some parks. We have the local park in our borough, which is always fun. But I know of some others close by that , for lack of better words, rock! Some have giant slides, some have tons of swings so everyone gets a turn, and some have giant climbing things. I think there's a pirate ship at one of them! Now to remember which one!

I also plan on taking them to the game preserve to feed the ducks. For the past few years, it's started to look run down. There's what was once a gorgeous house that's falling apart. Raccoons tend top frequent there now. When I was a kid, there were tons of rabbits you could feed and pet and tons of birds to look at. Mostly quail, but still neat if you're a kid.

Over the past month or so, there has been some work to restore the game preserve. They even brought back the best part. My absolute favorite!

Peacock

Oh, you should have heard GG squealing with delight as the bird flashed his feathers. She ran around the cage like a dog chasing it's tail, thinking the peacock was flashing just for her. I explained that male birds are the colorful ones and they show their feathers to attract the ladies.

It's a rare sight to see the peacock show it's feathers like that, but we loved every minute of it!

Until next time....

Sounds like you have a great summer lined up for your kids!

I'm sorry to hear about GG's teacher. I read the post about her, and it's a shame she can treat kids like that.

It reminds me of my nephew's kindergarten teacher. The first day of school he took a bead home to show his mom, because he thought it was neat. He didn't understand that you don't take things from the classroom without asking. He went to put it back the next day, and his teacher freaked out on him being, "a thief," and she wouldn't let him explain himself. And she "had her eye on him," for the rest of the year. He had a less than thrilling year, and there weren't any other teachers or schools he could transfer to.

A big sigh for poor teachers.

Buddy's last day of school is this Friday. He's excited, but not a whole lot changes because he goes to daycare. I hate that.
