Luck

Luck can be finding 5 dollars in the back pocket
of a pair of old jeans

Luck can be finding a four leaf clover
in a field of green

Luck can be sitting in your yard at just the right moment

as the girl down the street rides by on her bike

Luck can be that right moment turning into

the closest friendship
One that lasts a lifetime

Luck can be the result of the alphabet
That leads 2 people to form a bond
The type of bond that lasts for eternity

The meeting of soul mates

Chris and I have been together for 14 years. We hung out together during our time on the stage crew. And due to the luck of the alphabet, he would often sit behind me in the classes we had together. Of course he would also "rest" his feet on the back of my chair. And by rest I mean bounce his leg ridiculously fast and driving me absolutely crazy. But I guess that's what boys do when they like a girl.

October of 2001, when I was 8 months pregnant, we decided to get married. Those first few years were rough. I was staying home with the baby and loving every minute of it. But the result of that was him working late nights and many weekends, too. Even with him working such long hours, we were still financially strapped. At that time we didn't have a car either. That made it especially hard for me because I couldn't go anywhere unless I wanted to walk. But remember, I had the baby, which makes any trip twice as hard.

As time went on, I returned to the work force and Chris found a new and better job. But that doesn't mean things were all roses. We still had our rough patches, either as individuals or as a couple. I'm not ready to attack those demons "out loud" on my blog, but as a couple we have worked through the bulk of it. And I do believe working together has made us stronger.

I consider myself very lucky to have someone that I can turn to when I need help. And he can turn to me as well. I am very lucky that we have a bond of trust that cannot be broken, love that will not fade, and humor that will never get old.

I always say that if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. But in reality, that is not the case. I believe it was luck, or fate, if you want to call it that, that brought us together. Plus some assistance of a mutual friend who convinced him to ask me to our Sophomore Semi-formal dance. But I still believe that luck was a huge part of us coming together.

Prom

Until next time....

That is amazing that you guys have been together that long...I think sometimes we need a little luck to get through situations. It sounds like you have a very strong bond though!

What a sweet story!! My oldest brother and his wife started dating in 8th grade. They've been married about 21 years now.

I haven't met a married couple that hasn't had some very rough patches. I don't think you could truly grow together without those struggles.

Nice to know that you both have worked to get through them :D

You two have such a sweet story. It's not always easy, but you can tell from the way you talk about him, that you have a strong love.
