I Have a Secret

Secret
Shh... don't tell!

I have a secret that I'm about to share.

There is an awesome thing happening in my city right now.

Batman has come to town.

That's right, the newest Dark Knight movie is being filmed here. I would love to say that I have a small role in the movie, but I don't have the luxury of standing in line all day with the hopes of being in some random crowd seen with hundreds of other people. But I do have something.

A few nights ago I was picking the husband from dinner with an old friend. I knew that filming was going on that night and I decided to take a detour through downtown to see if we could see anything (hello, Christian Bale?). A few streets were closed off but nothing was set up to film yet. Damn you Christian Bale! I was just about to give up hope while pulling up to a red light when I saw it. Snow!

You see, The Dark Knight takes place during the winter months. And now I'm glad I didn't have to wear a parka for a crowd scene during those 90 degree days. New mock snow hadn't been laid out yet, but there were remnants of snow from the night before. A quick trip around the block and a bad parking job on a side street led us to our own baggie of Bat-snow!

Batman snow

Of course, I didn't place the snow in the baggie until after we were home because who carried around empty Zip-loc bags? Not me. Which means there is also Bat-snow laying in the cup holder of the car.

It may not be the cleanest snow, but then again neither is the real stuff after it's hit the sidewalks of downtown. But at least I can that I am the proud owner of part of a movie set. At least until Christian Bale comes to my house to take it back.

Until next time...

Mom of the year?

I'm linking up with Kmama and Emmy Mom for their Proud Mommy Moments

but to be perfectly honest, I would prefer to call it The Night I Was Awarded Mom of the Year.

While walking through Target last week, Little Dude saw a sign for a movie he wanted to see. I told him I would look into what was in the theaters for him and we would pick a time to go.

Last Saturday I took GG to see the final Harry Potter, which was incredibly awesome! Getting out of the house without Little Dude was rather difficult, but I knew this was definitely a movie I wanted to see before he did. When us girls returned home, I immediately looked up what movies were at the dollar theater that he could see. It worked out perfectly because the sign he pointed out in Target was currently playing at said el-cheapo theater.

The boy and I decided we would go see the movie Monday night. Come Monday Little Dude decided to be extremely difficult. Needless to say, our movie night was pushed back.

Tuesday he was on his best behavior. Well, at least better than Monday. After dinner, the boy and I climbed into our little red car and headed to the theater. Looking back, it's like he knew that Tuesday was the better day to go to the theater - it was dollar day. Not only was it a dollar to buy a ticket, as it is every day, but popcorn and drinks were also a dollar. Score!

We found our seats and waited for the movie to start. Thankfully there weren't many previews because my boy was starting to get impatient. He was so excited when it finally started, but fifteen minutes in I was second guessing our choice of movies. It was definitely not your ordinary kids movie.

Once the lizard found the town where he needed to go and the action started, things were starting to look up. I will admit there were a few scenes with some adult humor, which luckily went flying over his head. But if you really think about it, what cartoon nowadays, outside of PBS Kids, doesn't have some adult humor?

The end of the movie was a little dark. There were a few mentions of "hell" followed by a shootout between the snake and the bats, but the good guys did prevail. New friends were made, everyone was dancing, and the town was back to it's happy self.

Little Dude really enjoyed not only his first movie in the theater, but a night out just him and I. But looking back, was Rango really my best decision when it comes to movies my 5 year old should see?

Until next time...

I will survive

I survived a Girl Scout overnight trip! I want to know why the adults don't get a patch for that? It's quite an accomplishment to make it out alive!

I have to give much love to those who host this event. Everything was very organized and very fun. Yes, even I had fun. Until the sleeping part.

The night started out with group events. The 314 of us were split into 3 groups and we rotated between 3 stations. Our group, the orange group, started off with the campfire. That really worked out because I was starving! The girls and adults roasted wienies and made s'mores. The best part of that event? Hearing someone yell "Watch where you put your wienie!".

Our next station was inside the dome and went off relatively well. Until the end. We made tie-dye shirts, which turned out great. We also made letters to the troops. Before it was time to move on, the girls in my troop were goofing around. GG was tackled by one of her friends and it was ugly. She landed on her shoulder funny and I was afraid she dislocated it. She moved it a few times, but I could still tell it hurt her. She refused to let me take her to someone to have it looked at and instead she opted out of participating in our next station, mini golf. She showed her friends the proper way to hold the club and would retrieve their balls when they hit them too far. Even though she was hurt, she still had fun. The funny thing is, her shoulder miraculously healed when I told her she couldn't ice skate if she was hurt.

Before heading to the main building where the ice rink was, we had to stop back at the dome and change into warmer clothes. GG had to use the bathroom so I decided to take her and we would meet our troop in the other building. Of course there was a line at the bathroom. This kind of thing tends to happen when you only have one toilet available. The other one was just nasty! Yes, one bathroom for 314 people. There were 4 porta-potties, but personally, I have to be really desperate to even go near those!

Finally it was almost our turn. We just had to wait for the woman in front of us to finish. I don't know what the hell she was doing, but perhaps a porta-potty would have been a better option for her. I did hear paper ripping and I can only assume she was lining the seat before she sat. Then there was a bunch of shuffling and jingling. Possibly a belt? We stood there for 5 minutes and I'm still not sure she did anything! Perhaps I should have printed out Momma Kiss' rules on proper bathroom etiquette and shared them? Or perhaps she knew these rules and was trying to make us leave so she could get some privacy (see previous comment on her using the porta-potties because you're not going to get privacy when there's a frickin line!).

GG and I ended up walking out and decided to find the bathrooms in the other building. We peed, she got skated up, and headed out on the ice with her friends. The girls and some other adults who were not me skated for about an hour before we headed back to the dome, where we would be sleeping.

We set up our sleeping in prime real estate on the lovely hard as a rock green astroturf. We wanted a good view of the movie, which would start promptly at 11:15. That's past my bedtime, but I really wanted to see Tangled. I can tell you it was a really good movie. Up until the point where Rapunzel escapes from her tower. That's when I crashed. I woke up a few times through the night because I couldn't feel the side of my body I was sleeping on. If you've ever slept on astroturf, than you understand. If you haven't, it's probably more comfortable sleeping on a brick road.

And just when I finally fell into a deep sleep.... BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. Some bitches set their alarms for 6 o'clock in the bloody morning! Who does that?! The lights were coming on at 7. If that didn't wake you up, then the girls who were woken up by the lights surely would have gotten you up. Thank goodness coffee was provided.

I think everyone had a good time. I know I did, but I really have to wonder. Last week, I read a post by Erin about things that SAHMs should be paid for . If I were to add "Surviving a Girl Scout sleepover" to that list, how rich would I be?

Until next time....

Watch the zipper

I would like to retract yesterday's post.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say my son is dumb. He is very intelligent. But after the stunt he pulled, I really have to question where his mind is sometimes.

Just like I do every night before I go to bed, I check on the kids. I have been doing this since GG first came home from the hospital. I can't sleep until I perform this nightly ritual.

I tip-toed in to check on GG. I covered her, gave her a kiss, and turned off her lamp and radio. I made a quick pit stop and then went to check on Little Dude.

He chose to wear footie pajamas to bed. The first thing I noticed was that he unzipped them. It's not the first time and let's be honest, he's a boy Boys sometimes have an aversion to clothing.

I went to zip his jammies before I covered him, but there was a problem. I couldn't zip his jammies because his underwear were in the way. Somehow he pulled his feet out of his jammies, removed his underwear, placed them back on over top of his jammies, then put his feet back in.

I pulled his Spidermans off and gently began to tug his feet out of his jammies. Since he was free as a bird under those jammies, There's Something About Mary started playing in my head. If you've seen the movie I'm sure you already know the scene I'm referring to. The one where Ted zips himself while getting ready to take Mary to the prom? Ya, that one.

I really wasn't in the mood for a hospital, but thankfully I managed to redress him without any major incidents. But seriously? What was he thinking!?

Until next time....

My driving force

I have declared November to be the worst month ever! It's great that we can celebrate the birth of not only my beautiful daughter, but the birth of my sister-from-another-mister's daughter. As fun as it is to celebrate those things, the actual planning of the parties is anything but fun. Top that off with the husband going out of town for a weekend and I'm ready to pull my hair out. Every year I am thankful I make it to the end of the month. I think my driving force is Thanksgiving dinner!

This year I had another driving force. A driving force full of wizards and witchcraft. Yes I am talking about Harry Potter. I bought the tickets 2 weeks ago and I even made a little pre-movie song. You can see it here!

I have read every book and seen every movie. GG has started to read the books, but she, too has seen all the movies. I know she was excited to see the movie, but I may have been a wee more excited than she was. Possible evidence of that may have been my dancing my way into the theater! I was so nervous that something would go wrong and they wouldn't let us in. But they did, and off dancing I went.

The movie? Pure awesomeness! For the most part, is was true to the book. I laughed, I jumped, I cried. Harry Potter is the boy who lived. He was the one who nearly destroyed Voldemort (bad wizard for those unfamiliar with all of this). As the books go on, Voldemort gets stronger and eventually he returns. One cannot survive while the other lives. In other words, it's either Harry or Voldemort.

Any movie involving good versus evil has the potential to be scary and/or gruesome. There was a little of both in this movie. I was worried that GG would be scared. I think she was but it didn't have any lasting effects, as in nightmares. Thank goodness! I know GG won't admit it, but I know she was crying towards the end. One of the characters dies. Now I won't saw who, but I will say I completely forgot this little detail. It's been a few years since I read the book. Trying to wipe the tears from my face I caught GG trying to hide her face.

Other than being the ultimate cliffhanger, the movie was awesome! I was worried at first that GG wasn't really old enough. But seeing a 4 year old in the theater squashed those concerns. Unfortunately we now have to wait until June for the actual end of the movies.

I may have mentioned this in the past... I am NOT patient person!

Until next time....
